Newcastle disease, is a highly contagious viral infection that affects poultry birds.
Signs and Symptoms
The signs and symptoms can vary depending on the strain of the virus but common signs include:
Sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge & difficulty breathing.
Diarrhea, greenish or watery feaces.
Reduced feed intake, weight loss & dehydration.
Paralysis of wings and legs, tremors &Twisting of the neck.
Drop in egg production, poor eggshell quality & soft-shelled .
Swelling of the head and neck, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye membranes)
Newcastle disease can manifest in these signs and In severe cases, the disease can lead to high mortality rates in affected flocks, especially in unvaccinated birds. Early detection and prompt implementation of control measures are crucial for minimizing the spread of the disease and reducing its impact on poultry populations.
Prevention Measures
The most efficient prevention measure is regular vaccination, by a drop in the eye of each chicken every month.
